Free audit checkpoint — part receipt with discount
Question: A customer, Asha, owes the business ₹12,000. The business receives ₹7,000 in Bank and allows a discount of ₹500. Prepare the compound Journal entry and find Asha’s closing balance.
Checked solution
Bank A/c Dr. ₹7,000
Discount Allowed A/c Dr. ₹500
To Asha A/c ₹7,500
- Bank increases by ₹7,000, so Bank is debited.
- Discount Allowed is an expense/loss of ₹500, so it is debited.
- Asha’s receivable reduces by ₹7,500, so her Personal Account is credited.
Control check: Total Debit ₹7,500 = Total Credit ₹7,500. Asha’s remaining Debit balance is ₹4,500: ₹12,000 − ₹7,500.
For the underlying entry logic, review Journal Entries Step by Step and then follow the balance into the Ledger Posting lesson.
Release quality gate
A resource will not be described as available until its questions, classifications, journal entries, ledger postings, totals and solutions have been independently checked; its layout has been reviewed; and an authorised self-serve payment and download route is ready.
